What is PTE Academic?

PTE Academic is a computer-based English test that assesses your academic-level speaking, writing, reading and listening skills. Pearson test of English provides secure English language testing for study applications worldwide, and for visa applications for work and migration in Australia, UK, New Zealand, Canada and USA. .


Why take PTE?

Participating in the aforementioned examination can help to hone one’s English language skills and prepare one for an international environment. What PTE score do I need?

The higher you can score in your PTE, reflects a better understanding and ability to communicate in English. Each immigration body, university, workplace or institution will have specific PTE score requirements. The score you need will depend on what you are looking to do in the country, i.e. work or study. Candidates who get a PTE score in the range of 50 - 58 are considered to have got an Average PTE Score. Anything above 65 is a good PTE score.


How PTE is developed?

Pearson Test of English (PTE) provides secure English language testing for study applications worldwide, and for visa applications for work and migration in Australia, the UK, New Zealand, USA and Canada. The Pearson Test of English Academic assesses the readiness of non-native English speakers to participate in a university-level English language instruction program. It is a computerbased exam which focuses on real-life English used in academic surroundings. The test takers will listen to a variety of accents and academic language which they will encounter at English-speaking higher education institutions. The test covers four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking


PTE for study

Since 2009 PTE Academic has been rapidly accepted by Universities, governments, professional bodies and employers around the world as a valid and reliable assessment of academic English proficiency. The test is maximum 2 hours and 15 minutes long and takers can expect their results to be delivered to them, online, in maximum within 5 working days. PTE is recognized by more than 10,000 education and training providers worldwide. Some universities in non-English speaking countries also require an PTE score if the course is taught in English.


PTE Academic

The PTE Academic assesses the Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening skills to ensure that they are capable of studying in an international environment and prove their English language proficiency. Skills of the candidates will ensure that they are capable of studying in the international environment, with a good grasp of the universal language of English. By scoring well on this test, students can assure the admission committee as well as the visa officers that they are capable of understanding the globally accepted official language while studying in a foreign land. A good score on the test also ensures that candidates would be able to represent their ideas, deliver presentations, work to gain international exposure, and basically function on the international front in front of foreign audiences. This helps the applicants ensure that they are ready to study amidst students from all over the world and international faculty members in the universal official language.


PTE General Training

The PTE General Training test is suitable for those applying to study below degree level. This includes an English-speaking school or college. PTE General Training is also required for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test features everyday English language skills that you will need in social and workplace environments.


Which PTE test type is right for me?

If you want to move to an English-speaking country to study, then you should take the PTE Academic test. For work or immigration, the PTE General Training test is recommended. Please check the entry requirements of your organization before choosing your test.


Understand what happens on your test day


  • Keep yourself mentally fresh. Try to avoid arguments and skirmishes
  • Arrive at least half an hour before the exam starts
  • At the entrance, you’ll be asked for your passport, and the test receipt downloaded from the Pearson website
  • The administrator will assign you a locker to check-in your belongings
  • If you have any query, ask the invigilator
  • In general, there are 10 seats at the test center from which you’ll be allotted with a seat.
  • There will be other test takers around you, but each will be sitting in their private booth.
  • Check the microphone, its volume, and other functionalities. Contact the authority in a case it’s not working correctly.
  • In case you need help in between, you may raise your hand
  • Once the test is over, you are expected to leave the hall
  • Collecting passport and other formalities may take 10-15 minutes
